Sumter County, AL – local sales and use tax rates increase December 1, 2025

The Alabama Department of Revenue has posted new local sales and use tax rates for Sumter County, effective December 1, 2025. Sellers collecting in this county must update tax settings before the December filing cycle.

What’s changing

According to ALDOR’s official notice, Sumter County will increase several local sales and use tax rates effective December 1, 2025. Updated sales tax rates include:

  • General: 4%
  • Amusement: 3%
  • Automotive: 2.25%
  • Grocery: 3%
  • Machine: 2%
  • Vending: 3%
  • Farm: 2%

Local use tax rates have also been adjusted to match the updated sales tax categories. Payments and correspondence continue to be handled through Avenu’s Sales Tax Division.
