Marketplace Support for Shopify Sellers

Use TaxCloud to consolidate Shopify transactions and marketplace orders in one place for accurate nexus tracking.

Seamless marketplace tracking with no extra setup

All Shopify and marketplace sales data in a unified platform

All Shopify and marketplace sales data in a unified platform

Shopify sellers using other marketplaces (15+, including eBay, Etsy, Walmart, TikTok, and others), can use TaxCloud to import, tag, and sync those order details with Shopify. Teams can review Shopify data side by side, without the need for manual uploads, extra connectors, or specialized configurations.

TaxCloud consolidates Shopify and marketplace sales

One dashboard for all transactions

TaxCloud consolidates Shopify and marketplace sales into a single dashboard, making it easy to track totals by state, channel, or time period at a glance.

Marketplace nexus

Get a clear view of nexus obligations

In some states (about half) sales transacted through online marketplaces count toward economic nexus thresholds. TaxCloud combines Shopify and marketplace activity so that teams have an up-to-date view of upcoming nexus obligations and can register before those liabilities take effect.

Automate filing and remittance across all Shopify and marketplaces

Automate filing and remittance across all channels

While marketplaces remit their own taxes, Shopify sales must still be filed. Internally, TaxCloud separates marketplace orders from Shopify sales, so teams can file Shopify earnings without overpaying or underreporting based on marketplace data. It’s even possible to save on filing services with TaxCloud’s bundled filing subscriptions.

Leverage API tools for complex setups

Leverage API tools for complex setups

As companies grow, TaxCloud’s API can extend marketplace tracking into custom workflows. Build advanced reporting tools, automate reconciliation, and integrate with back-office systems using TaxCloud’s built-in tools and compliance features.

How it works

1

Connect Shopify to TaxCloud

Link Shopify to TaxCloud with just a few clicks. Marketplace orders will flow in automatically once connected.

2

Verify marketplace sales data

Review all tagged facilitator orders alongside your Shopify sales within a single, unified dashboard.

3

Track nexus thresholds

Stay ahead of compliance by monitoring combined Shopify and marketplace sales. Get clear signals on when you’re approaching new nexus obligations and need to register with state authorities.

4

Automate return filing with TaxCloud

Marketplaces handle their own remittance, but Shopify sales still need to be filed. TaxCloud streamlines the process so your filings are accurate and hassle-free.

Why Shopify merchants choose TaxCloud for marketplace reporting

Separation of marketplace and Shopify sales

TaxCloud automatically tags marketplace facilitator orders and keeps them distinct from direct Shopify sales. Teams always know which transactions are filed and which are remitted by marketplaces.

Accurate nexus tracking across all channels

Combined Shopify and marketplace sales are monitored in real time. TaxCloud sends alerts when organizations are approaching nexus thresholds and can assist with registration before penalties or interest can apply.

No manual uploads or reconciliation

With TaxCloud, all transaction data is imported and categorized automatically when syncing through Shopify. TaxCloud organizes and consolidates those details for fast and easy review.

Hands-on onboarding and U.S. based support

Merchants with complex setups can get additional support from our onboarding team so that reporting is configured correctly from day one. Standard support is also available from dedicated U.S.-based compliance specialists.

Prevent compliance gaps and surprise bills

In some states, marketplace orders still count toward nexus. By tracking every sale across every channel, TaxCloud reduces the risk of unexpected tax notices or costly audits without the need for teams to continually review and verify total sales.

Simplify reporting and stay audit-ready

TaxCloud consolidates sales data into clear, state-level reporting. That means faster filings, easier reviews, and documentation that helps you stay prepared if state auditors request additional information.

FAQs

A marketplace facilitator is a platform like Amazon, Etsy, or Walmart that is legally required to collect and remit sales tax data on behalf of sellers.

Most major marketplaces in the U.S. are designated as facilitators and manage this responsibility directly with the states where they operate.

Marketplace facilitator orders are transactions processed through a marketplace that collects and remits sales tax on the seller’s behalf.

These orders are tagged separately in TaxCloud to distinguish them from direct Shopify sales that must be filed by the seller.

No. TaxCloud doesn’t file marketplace facilitator orders because the originating marketplace already remits sales tax directly to the appropriate state.

These transactions are excluded from filings in TaxCloud but remain visible in reporting and nexus calculations.

Marketplace sales still count toward economic nexus thresholds in many states.

Even though tax is remitted by the marketplaces themselves, sellers may still be required to register once their total sales — including marketplace transactions — exceed state thresholds.

Currently, marketplace tracking in TaxCloud is only available through the Shopify integration.

Orders from supported marketplaces flow into Shopify, allowing TaxCloud to import and tag them automatically without manual uploads or separate connectors.

If the marketplace orders are flowing through Shopify, we may be able to support it, even if your marketplace isn’t currently supported by the Shopify integration.

Reach out to our teams and let us know, and we’ll see about adding support for another marketplace.

It might also be possible to move transaction data from other systems into TaxCloud using our API or via CSV import, but teams would need to build those custom flows by themselves (or with developer support).
