Alison Jares is the Deputy Director of Business Tax at the South Dakota Department of Revenue. With 24 years of dedicated service, she specializes in sales and use tax policy and training, as well as contractor’s excise tax.

About Alison Jares

Alison Jares has spent the past 24 years with the South Dakota Department of Revenue, starting as a Revenue Agent in the Taxpayer Assistance Center. As the Deputy Director of Business Tax, she focuses on shaping and training for sales and use tax policy, along with contractor’s excise tax policy. Alison is also deeply involved in the Streamlined Sales Tax Program, currently serving as the chair of the State and Local Advisory Council.

Before her tenure with the Department of Revenue, Alison worked for the Nash Finch Company in grocery retail operations throughout the Midwest. She holds a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of South Dakota and was a member of the inaugural class of the governor’s State Leadership Excellence program in South Dakota.

Alison and her family have been residents of Pierre, South Dakota’s Capitol City, for over 25 years, contributing to their local community and enjoying the area’s rich history and culture.
